4 Signs It Is Time For a Thermostat Upgrade

thermostat-reading-on-tablet

You can have the most well-maintained air conditioner in the world but if your thermostat isn’t up to par, your comfort is going to take a huge hit. This is why it is a good idea to keep tabs on the condition–and age–of your thermostat.

The thermostat is the brain of your HVAC system. Just like how you want to update the memory for your computer to upgrade it, you want to upgrade your thermostat to help improve your home comfort.

Not sure if you need to take the leap to upgrade your thermostat in Ashland? Here are some signs the time has come.

When to Upgrade Your Thermostat

Thermostats don’t exhibit some of the more obvious signs that they are wearing out the way your air conditioner might. However, there are still ways to tell that you would benefit from a system upgrade. Here are some of the indicators to watch for:

  1. You’ve upgraded your AC or heating, but not your thermostat. You don’t want to pair a new HVAC system with an aged thermostat. This can lead to a good deal of trouble, not the least of which will be higher energy bills. If you upgrade an AC or heater, then you should always upgrade your thermostat too.
  2. Your thermostat is unable to accurately detect the temperature. Your thermostat needs to be able to detect the temperature in the house accurately. Old, outdated thermostats may have trouble with this, even being up to 5° off! That’s a big problem for your comfort and your energy bill.
  3. The thermostat has a delayed response or no response at all. When you go to turn on your thermostat and adjust the temperature, your thermostat should have a prompt response. If instead, you notice that your thermostat has a delayed response or doesn’t respond at all, your thermostat needs to be replaced.
  4. You have a dial or switch thermostat. Have you ever looked at a thermostat and been able to immediately determine how many decades old it is? Switch and dial thermostats are just these kinds of systems. If you have a thermostat like this, it is a good idea to look into an upgrade.

Why Consider a Smart or Wi-fi Thermostat

When your thermostat is in need of an upgrade, you may want to consider replacing it with a smart or wireless (wi-fi) thermostat. These are some of the newest pieces of technology out there and they offer some great benefits when you install one in your home.

These kinds of thermostats are able to provide the ability to create programs that help you better control the temperature in your home without using extra energy. Wireless thermostats offer the unique ability for wireless access, meaning you can check your home temperature and change it on the go.

When you need a new thermostat in your home, it is best to have a professional technician be the one to make the switch. Our team can offer the thermostat upgrade that you need. We can even help you select the best thermostat to use in your home.
